Creating a Flavorful Base Without Gluten: A Step-by-Step Guide
Making gumbo roux can be a time-consuming task, especially when it requires constant stirring over the stove. However, there’s an easier method that allows you to prepare this essential flour thickener in the oven. By baking 1-2 cups of white, brown rice, or gluten-free all-purpose flour at 400°F, you can achieve the perfect roux without the hassle of standing by the stove. It’s important to stir the flour every 15 minutes, or more frequently if you prefer, until it reaches a desirable brown color.
This oven-baked roux is not only convenient but also versatile. It can be used as a thickening agent for various dishes such as soups, stews, and gravies. Moreover, it caters to those with dietary restrictions, as it can be made gluten-free and dairy-free. For those who do not have gluten sensitivities, traditional wheat flour can also be utilized. This method provides a simple solution for anyone looking to elevate their cooking without the usual effort associated with making roux.

Revisit our Channel and I’d really like to see you here thank you today I’m going to make a GL gluten-free Rue now what is a rue it’s usually for gumballs which I’m really hungry for so you may see a another Gumball in my future I did a GL I did a gumbo in the instant pot what I’d like to do now is to show you how to make it.
On the stove for those of you that don’t have an instant pot okay first of all what I did is I got a cake pan it’s metal you can use glass you can use a pip pan uh but I I like this because what I did is I put two cups of white rice flour actually I did one cup of brown rice flour and one cup of white rice flour now.
Um you don’t have to run out and buy those what you can do is you can use your gluten-free flour too and uh just put it in a metal pan uh the reason I’m doing two cups is I’m going to use it in gravies and such during the holidays so I’m making a little bit more you can do one cup because glutenfree Flowers tend to be more thickening than um white.
Flowers or wheat flowers and um so what do we do what we do is instead of using cup for cup oil to cup of flour in our gumbo we’re going to use4 cup and4 cup um so I’ll show you that when I make my Gumball recipe I also did this dry r on the instant pot gumbo and uh so I just decided to do a single um video for the.
Dry R okay first of all I have my oven turned on to 400° and we’re going to start Browning this now you have to remember that you just can’t put it in there and let it go you have to stir it every 15 minutes and due to the fact that I could use a whisk to stir it I’m just going to take the pan and shake it so um we’ll show you.
What happens when it starts to get brown okay it became very Brown in the oven I actually stirred it every 5 minutes because with it seemed like with the glutenfree flowers it started browning really fast so if you wanted to do it slower you could do it at 350 and uh stir it every 15 minutes but.
I would still keep an eye on it and KN not walk away because it will burn and now I want to show you what I do with it now okay what I did is I have these containers that have screw on Lids you don’t have to have the same thing you can put it in any container that you want but what we need to do is get this out of the pan because it’ll continue.
Cooking and we don’t want it to get any more um burnt than it it’s not burnt any more Brown than what it is and here I go making a mess I’ll just use my what I planned on oops I’m making a mess okay what I do is take the spoon out and I use this for the.
Gumbo cuz it’s nice and nutty now it’s got a Nutty smell and also I want to tell you that when you’re baking this it will smoke so don’t panic cuz that’s it suppos to smoke so um when I go to make a recipe I’ll start out with two tablespoons of this and two tablespoons of oil now I think when I did the gumo last time I.
Did A4 of a cup that’s fine too because it still got where I want it to be so I hope you enjoyed this smash the thumbs up button and come back and let’s make a comment to where you’re viewing from give me your town well you don’t have to give the town just give me the state okay see you later bye
