Indulge Guilt-Free: Whip Up These Decadent Twix-Inspired Protein Bars!
We’re making my easy recipe for a healthier Twist on Twix candy bars they’re gluten-free with almond flour and higher in protein with protein powder and cashew butter and naturally sweetened with maple syrup hello my name is Nicole Bonia and if you love healthier recipes for our favorite foods then you are in the right place to make.
These really easy Twix bars we’re going to start by prepping an 8 by8 baking pan now I like to line mine with a piece of parchment paper because it makes it really easy for getting the bars out of the pan so I’m going to start by folding up one Edge then Place My Pan on top score the other Edge fold it over press it into my pan score the inside Corners.
Fold one side up and over and the other side then I’m just going to spray the exposed areas with a little bit of non-stick and then we can set this aside to make the cookie layer for our Twix bars we’re going to start with 1 cup of almond flour and you’re welcome to jot down these ingredients as we go along or you can click on the link that’s in the.
Video description below and that will take you to the full recipe with all the details and then to add some more protein as well as flavor I’m going to add half a cup of protein powder and you can use any variety that you like I’ve included a link in the video description below to my favorite that’s made with vegetable protein as well as nuts and.
Seeds and is sweetened with coconut sugar and my family really likes the flavor and they’ll add 3 tbsp of coconut oil and you’ll want it melted 2 tbsp of maple syrup for some natural sweetness 1 tbsp of milk a teaspoon of vanilla and a 4 taspo salt then we’ll just simply mix this together with a spatula I have found that different protein powders.
Have different moisture levels so if your dough is still a little bit crumbly like this go ahead and add another tablespoon of milk and then continue mixing until it all comes together so you’ll know you have the right texture when it’s similar to a cookie dough next we’re going to drop it into our prepared pan and then I’m going to hold onto my.
Parchment paper as I just kind of roughly spread it out in the pan now once it looks pretty evenly distributed I’ll go in my spatula and just start smashing it down now if you could use more healthy inspiration on a regular basis I invite you to join my email list all you have to do is click on the link that’s in the video description below.
And that is the best way for us to stay connected well now that we’ve pressed this down nice and smooth it’s ready to go into the oven and we’re going to bake it at 350° for about 10 or 11 minutes or just until the sides are just starting to turn a really light golden brown well here’s our cookie base right out of the oven and you can see that it has a nice.
Little golden brown Edge so we’re going to set this aside and let it cool off while we make the caramel layer now I love about this caramel is that it comes together really quick because it’s made from a nut butter so it’s really kind of a mock caramel so in a mediumsized saucepan over medium to low heat so we’re going to start by adding a/ four a.
Cup of coconut oil a thir of cup of maple syrup and 2/3 of a cup of cashew butter but you can also use peanut butter or almond butter if you prefer next we’ll add teaspoon of vanilla and A4 of teaspoon of salt and then we’re just going to whisk this together until our cashew butter melts down now I know it might not seem like it at first but.
It only takes a couple of minutes for it all to become nice and smooth so after just a few minutes you can see it’s all come together and we just have a few little chunks from our cashew butter but that is okay so now we’ll take our caramel layer and pour it over the cookie base oh my goodness that smells so good and then I’ll just take my.
Spatula and spread it around then I’ll give it a few Taps to remove any air bubbles now we want this to freeze and set before we add our chocolate so you want to let it sit out on your counter for maybe about 10 15 minutes just to allow it to cool off and you want to put it into the freezer for at least 30.
Minutes or you could leave it in overnight if you’re making this ahead of time I have one here that I made last night that is ready for the chocolate layer now for the chocolate chips you can choose any variety that you like that meets your dietary needs so we’re going to add 2/3 of a cup of chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl and then.
I’m going to add about 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of coconut oil and then I’m going to put this in the microwave for 30 seconds take it out Stir It it and put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds so after the first 30 seconds you can see that it’s just starting to melt but it’s not there yet so I’m going to give it a quick stir and then put it.
Back in the microwave for another 30 seconds this is after a second round of 30 seconds you can see that it’s nice and melted well that is nice and smooth and ready to go on our bars so I’m going go ahead and just pour this right on top now of course you could cut out your bars and then dip them in chocolate if you want to have chocolate all the way.
Around but I find it’s really convenient just to to do them layered in a pan like this and I think it has plenty of chocolate and helps to reduce the amount of sugar and it’s still very satisfying now before we slice our bars we want this chocolate layer to set but we don’t want to put it in the freezer and have it freeze completely because then as we.
Cut it the top layer can crack so I found the best way to get around this is to put this into the fridge just for about maybe 10 minutes just until the chocolate solidifies then we’ll take it out and slice them while that chocolate isn’t completely Frozen and then we’ll get some nice even Cuts so I’ll go ahead and put this in the fridge so after.
About 10 minutes in the fridge our chocolate is now set and we can cut our Twix bars and I’ll go ahead and run my knife along the edges real quick and we can easily lift them up and out of our pan and then you are welcome to cut these bars however you like I like to make some really slender cuts and then we’ll cut down the middle and go ahead.
And make a nice slender cut all the way across you can see how easily we can cut through our chocolate without it splitting on top and then cut it down the middle so we have what looks like a very delicious Twix bar that is delicious that is just as satisfying as.
A candy bar but I think tastes even better just from the depth of flavor coming in from those ingredients including the almond flour and the protein powder what I love most is that they’re made with clean natural ingredients which means I’m going to feel just as good even after I eat it and I love being able to share these.
