Gluten-Free on the Go: Tips for Traveling and Eating Well
Hey it’s coffeee time I’m Aaron welcome to Brewing Better Living if you’ll notice I am in a very um different setting here and how convenient that my mug actually kind of goes along with this this sofa here I’m kind of digging the color it kind of gives me like 1970s Vibes or something but anyway that’s why it’s so nice and.
Neat behind me because I am a away from home in a very nice hotel so um one of the things and I did a video about this yesterday is that when I go away number one because of the celiac disease and number two because I’m trying to stay on track with my macros and my strength training goals and.
Everything for those two reasons I bring my own food it is just easier for me to know that I’m safe to know that I’m eating healthy to know that I’m not eating anything that will make me sick or cause any problems while I’m away especially um you know and all of that so I shared yesterday a little bit about what I brought um I had from home my.
Husband had cooked me a bunch of uh grilled chicken breasts a bunch of burgers so I brought all of that I brought um cheese with me I brought what else did I bring I brought my usual like yogurt and cottage cheese that I would have at home now I don’t I do have like a kitchen type setup here but I don’t have a place to um like cook eggs like.
There’s no cook top in this room and I didn’t bring anything like that so basically I hardboiled eggs and I brought those with me so I’m still having my eggs like I would every day at home just in a little bit different form so that’s fine yeah it’s a little bit of a of of pain but it gives me a nice break from those fried eggs that.
Sometimes I just get tired of so I have all of that um I also brought some gluten-free granola that I that I eat sometimes just to have something easy in the morning because I have to leave the hotel room um like before 700 with my daughter because we’re we’re out she’s swimming so we have to get to her warm-ups early um so all of that so I.
Bring all of this with me I even bring my own like um K Cup coffee machine with my own coffee I don’t take any chances everything’s you know I know everything’s clean I’ve made everything and prepared it myself I keep it here now what if you in a hotel that doesn’t have this type of setup like I have pretty good siiz fridge in this room um.
I’ve got like a I check the video out from yesterday you’ll see that they have a really nice kitchen setup like I said the only thing this one doesn’t have is a cook top and I’ve stayed in places similar to this that had an actual electric cook top in the in the kitchen area in the counter but um a very nice size fridge I guess you would consider.
It an apartment sized fridge is what it’s actually called but more than enough to keep food for four or 5 days without a problem um so brought a lot of that with me I’m very lucky too that I have stuff right nearby like within a minute’s Drive um Whole Foods Target all of these places that I can also go and pick up some more.
Food while I’m here if I need it so these are things to keep in mind um you can always if you don’t have that fridge in your room what you can do and I’ve asked this before I’ve asked the front desk before in hotels that have like those those like little little tiny mini fridges I’ve said can I get another mini fridge.
In my room and I was told no but they do have a big fridge um generally downstairs like where management is and they can put stuff in there or they can put stuff in your in their kitchen fridge for you if you ask now that depends on what you’re comfortable with obviously I’d rather have the food with me but that is an option and then you.
Could run down and and get food or whatever so there are ways um or make stuff that doesn’t have to to be refrigerated you know there’s always that option too I know if you’re eating this way it’s kind of harder because like I’m not going to have chicken that doesn’t need to be refrigerated or you know meat that doesn’t need to be.
Refrigerated so that sort of thing um another thing that you can do is if you’re gluten-free and you do want to eat out you know maybe you feel more comfortable than me eating out or or you’re not as super sensitive that it’s going to destroy your your time away from home if any anything happens you know it’s a.
Total totally individual choice right but you can check out ahead of time um do your research go online look at the reviews look at what types of um gluten-free options the restaurant has um even better try to look for places that are dedicated gluten-free and then you know that that pretty much you’re you’re going to be okay um there’s some.
Apps there’s find me glutenfree there’s gluten dude has an app and I think there’s even some more so you can check them out I think that you can get a free version of all of them to start and see how you like it I don’t 100% trust those because you know sometimes um people might go there and say they did fine but maybe that they’re not as sensitive as.
The next person you know but it definitely is a tool to get you started either way you always have to do your homework and check things out on your own but it’s definitely a starting point and if you research a lot of this stuff ahead of time it can give you that peace of mind that you’re you’re making um better choices when it comes to eating.
Out like I said that’s not for me I just prefer to save the money have everything in my hotel room um you know heat it up or not like today I didn’t even heat up my lunch I had a few hardboiled eggs I had some chicken breast I had some cheddar cheese and I just ate everything cold you know I’ll eat chicken cold I’ll eat burgers cold again individual Choice.
What you want to do but I do have the microwave to heat stuff up if I choose to do that so these are all just little things that you can do to help whether you’re traveling um like me gluten-free or whether you’re trying to stay on track with a specific plan or way of eating um if you have allergies all of these things there are always ways to do.
This now I did drive here so that made it easier for me to pack a cooler with some stuff and be able to bring a lot of things like if I had been going on a plane or whatever that would have been a lot more difficult of course but still it’s my understanding and I have not yet traveled by plane being gluten-free but it’s my understanding that you can bring.
Snacks you know obviously they have the um limit on liquids but you can buy them once you’re past uh your security checkpoints I believe so there will be things that you can bring from home just to keep safe during your flight and make sure you don’t get sick and all of that but you know just keep in mind think outside the box there are always ways.
To do this um you don’t have to put yourself in at any risk when you go and you travel just um you know just some thoughts I’m like I’m suddenly like drawing a blank here I’ve been rambling on for long enough but um anyway B B B B I like to say that either way I hope that that’s helped some people if you have any tips I’m sure.
That I missed a million that there that there are there everybody has other tips for what they done and little tricks that work for them leave it in the comments down below I’m curious to see and I love to hear from people so whatever you do though enjoy your coffee and I will see you next time bye
