Reflections on Living with Celiac Disease: Progress and Challenges After Three Years

This update discusses nearly three years of living gluten-free while managing celiac disease. The creator shares their experience of undergoing a bone density scan for the first time, which is an important step for individuals with celiac disease due to the potential risk of decreased bone density associated with the condition. This personal account highlights the importance of regular health monitoring in managing chronic conditions.

Additionally, the update includes a celiac screening involving blood tests, with the results revealed later in the discussion. The unexpected nature of the results prompts the creator to plan further changes to their management approach. This emphasizes the dynamic nature of living with celiac disease and the necessity for ongoing adjustments to one’s health strategy based on medical evaluations.

Navigating Life Without Wheat: Triumphs, Trials, and Tasty Discoveries!

Welcome back to my channel my name is Cari and I make everything gluten-free and vegan however today is going to be a little bit of a health update as I have CC disease as you guys know some of the things that can happen later on in life that you have to be aware of is um like bone degeneration and osteoporosis and things like that uncommon for me to get.

A bone density scan at this age but my doctor I’m assuming for like a good Baseline which like I should be like healthy should have a good bone density right now at my age which is early 30s my gastroenterologist sent me for bone density and that’s what we’re doing today so come along inside and we’ll see what I can actually film of it because I.

Don’t know so let’s and we’re back that was the fastest appointment I have ever been in y’all like literally the longest I waited was in the lineup to get to like sign in and get the form and like the form was like you can tell this is something that like Elder people do because all of the.

Questions were like mostly like what you would ask like older people for sure so was like that’s interesting but anyways so I was like no no no no okay so I’m going to walk you through if you’ve never like me experienced this before never thought you’d be in this position so here anyways in Canada and nagra you go in with your sheet Well I booked it.

Online and then they called me back to confirm an appointment I um luckily it was literally the next day so yesterday they called me and I was like okay get this done with really quick I go in I give them my sheet they gave me the form I’ll I actually filmed some of the forms so you guys can actually see I don’t know why I’m like telling you this when.

I just have evidence of what it said but anyways I waited for like 5 minutes the room little small room table like for people to lay on with this contraption over top of like just over top of the pillow like it wasn’t like that big it was just like this thing looked like an arm so you have to make sure you’re not wearing anything metal but it doesn’t do.

Anything any part of your face so like I was like oh cool like I don’t have to take off my glasses or like my nose ring whatever but none of your clothes can have metal obviously it’s like an x-ray so I made I found sweatpants that didn’t have metal like on the which she checked anyways um on the strings like a lot of time the sweatpants will have like a.

Metal ring where your strings come out or metal on like the tips and luckily I had a hoodie Clay’s hoodie one of his hoodies no metal and then my sweatpants I found no metal as well so that was nice I didn’t have to like strip down and put a freaking gown on they weigh you and then they height you you jump on the table you lie down literally it’s.

The fastest thing ever and it’s not even like nerve-wracking or anything it’s not like a huge machine like an MRI or anything that would be scary lay down on the table they only for the bone density and I asked why because I was interested they only take the x-rays of your hips and your lower back so apparently it’s because that’s where like that’s where.

The actual like they can tell or where like the test is for it or whatever like the testing site or whatever which I’m like okay interesting maybe that’s like the most like massive bones that you have in your body Mak sense your hips the thing comes down from your head so she got me to put my knees up on this like box so my calves were like resting.

On top of this foam box it was doing like my P like kind of my pelvis and like lower back area it was like dink dink and it was like a photocopy machine kind of anyways then she pulled out the box from under my leg put my legs straight but then I had to curve my toes inwards towards each other and hold them there and I was like this is like a.

Really awkward like I would never naturally like point my toes so in towards each other just laying on my back like this the thing came and it went and did like on my hips area she’s like okay it went back up to my head and she’s like you’re all done your doctor will get you’ll get the results in like a week or blah blah blah and I’m like oh.

Okay that was painless if you have a a bone density test don’t push it off because it’s honestly the easiest thing in the world takes no effort like I didn’t have to prep anything I didn’t have to take anything or eat a certain way or yada yada it was excellent next up I have a blood test I’ll do get my blood test done I haven’t updated you.

Guys with a blood test in like over a year I think or maybe a year I can’t remember I think it’s been over a year we’ll see what my levels are at if you’ve watched my food diary video you’ll know I recently discovered I shouldn’t be eating oats that oats do have an effect on me and I’m curious to see if they’ve been if the oats have.

Been affecting my absorption of certain vitamins and minerals like iron Etc so I’m really curious as to what the blood test will say because I haven’t been eating oats for like over a week now go watch the video if you’re curious about my food diary and journey to figuring the oat thing out and I will update you guys and see you when I get my results.

Bye welcome back y’all I almost forgot hopefully y’all can not just be totally in the Sun but I almost forgot to update the Vlog I haven’t got any results yet from my bone density scan it is now January 27th yes I sound like I just woke up because I in fact basically did because I decided not to eat breakfast so I thought let me just sleep in and.

Give myself like half an hour get up I made myself a smoothie um maybe I’ll show you it after for after just in case I did get my period this morning so I’m like they’re taking my blood um and I don’t want to be like fainty or anything like that so I have some blueberries and strawberries and soy milk and some vanilla coconut.

Yogurt in here um for after I also brought some water with me so yeah my appointment I don’t know if it really works like that but I got to go stand in line anyways so cross our fingers that I am hydrated enough this time and I don’t get any bruises literally I had to wait like half an hour it was kind of annoying it.

Was so busy literally there was one seat left and it was right by the stupid door which is like where people line up and I was so annoyed I just playing a game on my phone for a bit and then I was like okay this is like dumb AF I’m like feel so in the way and I people had left so I literally stood up I like walked a few feet over to sit down into an open spot.

And they called my name I was like oh perfect timing I don’t even have to sit down again and then I strolled over and of course like if you ever had your blood taken it’s like super super fast but I will tell you some tips be hydrated be like as hydrated as you can be for the last I guess like week or two I’ve been like making sure I’m drinking.

At least 1 and 1/2 L of water and it’s not that much water like I’m trying to go for more but for me I would maybe drink like not even a liter of water a day like it was really bad I was not drinking enough water period at all one or two glasses like really really bad guys the more hydrated you are the faster the better the blood will.

Actually come out and the better they’ll be able to find the vein the one time I got my blood drawn and it was the summertime I don’t know if I still have any footage or any pictures but like my whole arm was just black and blue and it looked so bad like I didn’t realize till after that like kind of looked like almost not like track marks but like I.

Had consistently been stabbing myself in my arm because of the bruising and it didn’t it lasted weeks like it was so bad and it was the middle of the summer so I couldn’t like hide it that much because it was so hot and I’m like oh like it was just from getting my a blood ticket that’s supposedly due to dehydration so I was really making sure.

Like I was on my water yesterday I drank like a liter and a half yes I didn’t eat because it didn’t say I needed to be fasted but I figured if I want to know if my iron is messed up or whatever I know my period just started but like it just started so I feel like it can’t have messed up that much but actually I feel amazing I feel really good like I.

Stood up I felt fine was not lightheaded I walked to the car and I was like oh I feel like amazing um okay and when she took off the little thingy cotton swab and then she took it away and I didn’t even start bleeding and I was like oh hell yeah Miss I can clot my blood like that okay I’m not just going to be gushing blood.

So I think that’s a good sign too super happy with myself for now um we’ll see if I get much of a bruise in the next couple days I’m going to keep like staying hydrated so I’m going to sit and drink a little bit of my smoothie frozen blueberries fresh strawberries and then whatever I told you earlier I would normally put bananas in my smoothies but.

I didn’t have any and obviously I didn’t think about this it’s honestly not good it’s like not sweet at all I’m looking forward to seeing what my actual like Celiac I forget what they’re called I’m looking forward to seeing like where those numbers are at because I’m assuming they’re like zero now they should be zero anyways and hopefully he.

Calls me back or hopefully he calls me my gastroenterologist this week and we have some results from both and we find out um that I’m just healthy as can be I will get back to you guys when when we get out of welcome back y’all so time for the.

Update talk to my doctor and let’s just say I am severely sensitive um to gluten so um I had pulled up my blood test results before I went and I could see that I forget what it’s called maybe I’ll pop it up on the screen the transglutaminase or whatever it’s supposed to be under 12 I was at 18 now if you’ve watched my other videos in.

Regards to like getting diagnosed and everything when I started initially my blood test I was over 250 it literally didn’t go over 250 I was over 250 and then I’m not sure when but later on after not eating gluten it got down to 45 and I was really happy and that was like over a year ago and now I’m still at 18 and I’m like what the hell like.

What is going on I’m so particular I’m so specific um the only thing I can think is like I do live with two people that eat gluten and we share stuff like pots and pans and then another thing I saw on Tik Tok and then I asked my boss who has celc disease and both of those were saying mushrooms because sometimes they’re grown in like beds of like wheat.

Or hay or whatever and I’m like okay so maybe mushrooms could be contaminated so I have stopped eating mushrooms which is really sad because I actually really like mushrooms um until I can I guess find some that can like I can find out where they’re grown in which I don’t know if that’s possible I told my doctor about.

That I stop eating oats and he basically said that I should shouldn’t eat oats anyways he’s like you’re going to have to be like very very strict he’s like all of my people they are under like they’re within that 12 or they are like negative like 0 0 0 and I’m like really okay so it is possible because I was starting to think that this is.

Impossible I am literally so paranoid and so careful that like it’s really shocking to me that my number was still just above like the range and really annoying because he said essentially that means my SE celiac disease is still active within my body which I was like isn’t it always active but guess if you’re actually not even a molecule of.

Gluten in your body it is inactive so good to know what he told me I must do cuz he gave me the options I could talk to a dietitian or try and figure it out on my own which is what we planned because clearly I’m like well kind kind of already thought about it which are annoying like stopping anyting mushrooms and then as well I thought well maybe I.

Should buy a toothpaste cuz he’s brought up toothpaste C of gluten so I’m going to maybe try to look for a toothpaste that actually says gluten-free on it I’m going to get a new pan I’m thinking that my non-stick pans are not very non-stick therefore any gluten that’s cooked in them potentially is getting into the nonstick that’s not nonstick anymore you.

Get my vibe I think I have one pan that has never had gluten in it so I’m going to go with that one as one of my like sticking with that one and then I’m going to buy myself a new one and it’s going to be glutenfree no oh nothing I’m going to stop eating mushrooms I don’t do oats anymore and getting myself a new pan oh.

Yeah he also said uh no more eating out and I haven’t been so I literally don’t eat out so I’m still not going to obviously anything from the gluten-free bakery will be fine cuz it’s certified gluten-free I think that’s pretty much my changes that I’m going to do within the next 4 months because that’s when I my next checkup will be will be in four.

Months and we’ll see if we should do another Blood which I think I’m going to because I really want to know if I go underneath because if I make these changes and my number does not change I will be like what the actual hell because we do still share an oven but like not that much gluten is actually cooked in our oven I don’t know let me.

Know if you have Celiac if you are this sensitive or what your experience has been I mean I was diagnosed in so I stopped eating gluten in about April 2022 and then I got my Endoscopy in I think October 2022 and I mean you could go back I’ll link the video here you can go back and see the exact dates but so I’ve been.

Diagnosed technically since October 20122 but I knew basically in April so I’m pretty much 3 years coming up in a couple months of not eating gluten and I’ve only had like some cross contamination stuff here and there in that whole 3 years I am disappointed because it’s just annoying and frustrating to be like so sensitive to.

Something and now I just have to try harder when it’s like I felt like I’ve been trying really hard so and I feel like normal if you watch my food diary Vlog like after I got rid of the oats I feel like actually really good and he said once you’re like that level it’s you’re not going to have probably any symptoms anyways so would probably would.

Only be able to tell through a blood test at first in my mind I was like it’s fine because I don’t have any symptoms but like truly it’s not and he told me with it being active in my body it can lead to be like other health problems down the line and everything even at that low of a level like he does not want it to be active and over that 12.

Period at all he’s like you like with it being active like there’s malabsorption problems there there’s all these different things that it can lead to down the line oh I almost forgot my bone density is normal so woohoo that’s really good to know so like does that mean my iron’s low and.

Yada yada and he’s like well if your Celiac active your stuff’s going to be low basically and I’m like oh so let me know if you guys want to know any any more information or or if you have struggled with uh getting gluten truly out of your body and that will be it for my update my health things making.

Changes we’ll go back in 4 months and we’ll see let me know if you want update of where my blood will be at then and hopefully you know we can be at nothing nothing nothing that is our goal okay all right like if you like don’t forget to subscribe and and I will see you in the next video bye
