Flavorful Fiesta: Tempeh Tacos that will tantalize your taste buds!
Hello everyone and welcome back to my kitchen for another vegan and gluten-free recipe episode I’ll be making this batch of tasty Tempe tacos courtesy of tasty.com it’s a great resource I’ve used it plenty of times and I believe the last time I featured it on this channel was for my vegan fluffy pancakes I’ll link that episode.
Up here so you can check it out anyways back to these tacos honestly I was looking for something that was pretty quick and easy taco Tuesday situation I’m filming this on a Tuesday by the way it’s airing on a Thursday so we can play both days it’s a super easy recipe which I absolutely love especially when you’re short on time this will come together in.
20 minutes approximately maybe 30 depending on the cook time before I give you an overview of the recipe steps though let’s go through each of these 10 ingredients that go into the Tempe tacos first let’s start with the namesake itself there’s 1 8 oz package of Tempe going into these tacos for those of you who don’t know Tempe is like tofu except.
It’s a bit less process you can see the soybeans in the Patty yes I know it might look a little bit strange I remember thinking it was kind of weird when I tried it out for the first time many many years ago but honestly this is one of my all-time favorite protein sources as a vegan next we have one4 of a yellow onion all chopped up this is.
One whole jalapeno pepper all chopped up I left the seeds in because I love my food to be super spicy but honestly I would caution against adding the jalapeno pepper at all if you really don’t like spicy food food I think these tacos would taste perfectly fine without this jalapeno pepper next up we have this lovely package of laera tortillas.
They’re made right here in Minneapolis they’re yellow corn tortillas so they’re gluten-free of course you can use wheat flour tortillas if you prefer those instead and if gluten really isn’t a concern for you there’s 1 teaspoon of ground cumin 2 tpoon of chili powder 2 tpoon of garlic powder some ground black pepper to taste 1/4 cup of tamari which.
Is brewed soy sauce and the last ingredient is 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil I told you this was an easy recipe so let’s go through the four steps to make these Tempe tacos first I’m going to take this package of Tempe and put it in my lovely food processor which I have tucked over here to the side and just pulse that down into.
Little crumbs for step number two I’m going to take my chopped onion my chopped jalapeno pepper and sauté those in some olive oil in my Skillet which is all ready to go on my stove top the third step is to take the crumbled Tempe the soy sauce all of these spices over here and add them into the skillet with the sauteed onion and jalapeno pepper.
Mix those all together and that’s going to form the taco filling the fourth and final step is of course the most fun step because that’s Taco assembly and eating so first I’m going to take a few of these corn tortillas heat them up in my microwave I’ll then get them positioned in my lovely Taco Stand I just love this I think it’s so beautiful.
I had to give it a little Spotlight moment once those are sitting pretty and ready to go in this lovely Taco Stand I’ll take some of the Tempe filling and fill up each one and then dig into these tacos and let you know what I think that’s the spark notes version of this recipe I’ve linked it down below in case you’d like to follow along or try this.
Out yourself I’m going to get started here at my countertop pulsing down the Tempe and then I’ll bring you over to my stove top where I’ll saut down the onion the jalapeno pepper and then mix in everything else and get the filling all ready to go for these tacos.
I’m very impressed with how the Tempe Taco filling turned out it crumbled down and honestly is reminding me of like a beef filling you would have in a taco if you weren’t eating vegetarian or vegan I’m going to take the most stuffed one on the very end and just dig right in the first thing I tasted is the cumin and the chili powder I haven’t gotten a.
Crunch yet of the jalapeno pepper so I’m excited to see how that tastes it’s actually pretty mild I’m not really getting much heat which is fine I made a point of sautéing down the jalapeno pepper pretty well and that’s because wow I like to have a lot of spice in my dishes typically sometimes jalapeno can just overwhelm everything and you lose.
All the other flavors in a dish I realize this is a pretty quick and easy recipe I think what you could do if you wanted to dress these up a little bit you could have like a cilantro crma avocado slices chopped red cabbage Tomatoes I mean you could put a bunch of fixings on top of these to really fill them out but I am not going to knock.
These I love these tacos as a very easy very efficient budget friendly protein packed meal they’re seriously so good and I love and live for meals that come together in minutes especially after you’ve worked a full day let me know what you thought of this recipe episode down in the com comment section seriously don’t be shy I love hearing.
From you if there’s a recipe you’d like me to feature on this channel you can leave that down below as well I keeping a running list and it’s always nice to have new ideas I also love the challenge of taking a recipe that’s not typically vegan or gluten-free and checking both of those boxes so leave any ideas below if you think of any that’s it for this.
