The Impact of Emotions on Your Well-being: Why Perception Matters

Dr. Osborne and Dr. Sina McCullough discuss the powerful role of emotions in achieving one’s greatest self and health, highlighting the impact of spiritual connection, forgiveness, and self-acceptance on physical and emotional well-being. They emphasize the importance of addressing emotional traumas, fear responses, and the need for self-love and forgiveness to overcome chronic diseases and achieve healing.

Dr. Sina McCullough shares her personal story of nearly dying from an autoimmune disease and how she was able to fully heal without medication through the grace of God. She is now dedicated to helping others find their second chance by promoting spiritual connection, forgiveness, and self-acceptance as key components of achieving optimal health and well-being.

Harnessing the Healing Power of Emotional Intelligence

It’s not untrue and that emotion plays such a powerful role in in either allowing you to achieve your greatest self and achieve your highest level of energy and health or it plays a role in keeping you from making breakthroughs and um a lot of people have that we live in a I would I would call it our current day and age.

Is this is going to sound harsh but I I think we live in a spiritually bankrupt society and I think people have traded their their belief the spiritual realm and and whether you know whether you’re Christian or or it doesn’t matter to me like I’m not here to promote anyone religion but um we’ve traded it for convenience we’ve traded it for.

Materials we’ve traded it for um things that don’t really matter but seem like they matter and I think at the end of the day um when you peel yourself away from the material and really get down to Brass tax what matters most is that you are spiritually connected in a loving way to those around you right and if you aren’t or if there’s uh if there’s a.

We’ll just say a disconnect an anger or resentment or whatever you might hold or Harbor it can make you sick it can make you very sick and it can make you chronically sick and it can prevent you from getting healthy and it is because that energy absolutely will affect the way that your body is capable of navigating the world in a happy healthy.

Way it absolutely will and um I want to share one study that might help bring this home a little bit because it’s talking about on the physical level so as I was mentioning your emotions really come out of your thoughts and your perception right so again perception really matters so there was this study that was done um I think it was out of.

Stanford and it was a leptin study and so leptin as you know is a hormone associated with feeling full all right so the researchers had these subjects come U to into the lab and they fed them a meal and they measured their leptin levels then they had him go home and about a week later I think they had them come back and they told half of the.

Subjects that they had a gene that would protect them against obesity right so whatever you eat doesn’t matter you have this Gene it’s going to protect you against obesity they gave him the same meal and they measured the leptin again in that group that thought they had the protective Gene their leptin.

Increased about two and a half times but the real kicker is they didn’t all have the gene the researchers lied to them and just told them they had the gene so this is an example in the scientific published literature of how your belief can override your genes and again whatever you your belief your perception your emotions follow.

That right so so this is a great example that um that your feelings are a critical aspect of your healing and you know most people are already actually aware of this because even the CDC talks about how like 90% of all diseases are caused by or related to stress right and the all these studies.

Talking about you know the emotional stress contributing to disease so people we already know this kind of on a peripheral level but I think you’re absolutely right we don’t believe it because if we did believe it it would be part of our daily Wellness protocol just like I’m going to drink clean water I’m going to eat this clean organic food I’m.

Gonna stop eating grains right it would be one of those steps it would be I’m going to do my emotional detox for the day right it would you would be I’m going to connect with Community right and you’re so right that spiritual connection with community that is always one of the top factors when you talk to people who live over a hundred years old.

That’s one of the common factors they have this sense as feeling of community and why is that that sense of community elicits those um highfrequency emotions right A Feeling supported a feeling loved A Feeling grateful and what I’ve learned in my own healing journey is that I would say almost every single time like I don’t want to blanket.

Statement 100% of the time right because there always seems to be some kind of caveat but almost all the time the emotional root cause of a chronic or autoimmune disease is not feeling good enough and meaning you don’t feel loved so what we say on the emotional level is that disease like chronic autoimmune chronic disease um stems emotionally.

From from a lack of forgiveness right not forgiving autoimmune disease if you want to divide it that way autoimmune disease on emotional level stems from not feeling loved and accepted the way that you are and you can um you can bring that down to the physical level you know we’ve talked about autoimmune disease people describe it as the body.

Is not able to identify self so the body attacks self I don’t actually like that definition but that is the common definition the body attacks self okay so there the body doesn’t identify itself anymore if you bring that to the emotional level like I said when you don’t love and accept yourself that acceptance means you are.

Putting that divide between you and your body hence it’s not g to it’s not going to recognize itself anymore right so you’re not being your true self and so part of the emotional component of reversing these diseases is finding your voice finding your truth right being true to yourself so it’s forgiving these things are all tied together the.

Forgiveness component and learning to love and accept yourself exactly the way you are so I have found that when I went through and my list of um people who I thought had harmed me in the past especially like adverse childhood experiences you know the attachment trauma I talked about things that happened in childhood I made a list of.

All the incidents all the people that I thought had wronged me and I went through and practiced forgiving uh which is a whole another story because I didn’t even know what forgiveness was um and what I realized was the hardest person to forgive was myself and it still is right because I expect Perfection for myself right this higher.

Standard so that’s when that’s a daily emotional detox for me is working on forgiving myself you know forgiving all these people all these transgressions that have happened but also just for forgiving myself um and part of it I do we have time do you want to go into forgiveness or are we about out of time let’s let’s let’s talk about.

Forgiveness so you you know I I’m just gonna throw this out there too because one of my observations um is just a variance on what you just said which is um a person’s journey to heal really has to begin with the self-awareness that they have to love themselves enough to be honest with.

Themselves about what needs to change yeah um but also have the grace enough to forgive themselves for the things that they’ve done and the things that they will continue to do that might be a blip in their way that might be a road bump in their way and that and.

That to me is so important because you know we were just talking about this before we even hit the record button we were talking about um being your own worst critic right and that’s it’s a very easy thing you know to get caught in that emotional trap of criticizing yourself for not being good enough um and that you know again as self.

Forgiveness is what you’ve just expressed so yeah let’s let’s let’s take it in that direction talk a little bit more about like what your journey and what your experience was and and how you kind of came to terms too for give yourself and and and be in a better place sure so what I realized was I had a disregulated nervous system which most.

Everybody does um and mine stem from the adverse childood experiences the Aces and the attachment trauma and so I was trying to figure out okay how can I rewire my nervous system right and so I I did a deep dive into fight ORF flight and the fight flight or freze response and what I really boiled it.

Down to was you know well so if if someone doesn’t know what that is just a brief you know it’s like if you’re walking down the street and a tiger jumps out you have this beautiful gift that God’s given us of fight or flight and your your body will go into the um sympathetic nervous system State you’ll.

Release different hormones like adrenaline cortisol to help you fight the tiger or run away um and and that’s a beautiful gift and what we now know is that some people are estimating that the average person spends about 70% of their time actually in this chronic state of fight ORF flight and that alone can lead to.

Disease because for instance elevated cortisol right can lead to inflammation um decreased ability to um to lose weight um increased fatigue you name it so so it’s not good to sit in this chronic state of fight ORF flight so I was thinking about it and I thought well why why are we in fight ORF flight all the time because we don’t have these.

Literal Tigers chasing us anywhere like I feel safe I’m at my house my doors are locked like there’s nobody trying to rob me like I you know what why why are we sitting in fight or flight and then I realized fight ORF flight is at the root of it a fear response right it is a response to fear so the the more appropriate question is what are we.

Afraid of why are we all afraid 70% of the day and that’s where you get into there might not be physical Tigers chasing you but we have these emotional Tigers chasing us and we tend to distract ourselves right as a coping mechanism by doing things like getting on social media you know for hours or whatnot or binge.

Eating or some people um you know exercise too much for what their body needs or me my coping mechanism is work right so we tend to try to distract ourselves as these coping mechanisms because we’re running from these emotional Tigers but you can’t actually outrun them because as I’ve just line outlined for you they’re always there.

They’re imprinted in your bof field so while you are keeping your mind busy running from them your body is getting this information sent to it right through the energies of your emotions it is responding accordingly so the body doesn’t know the difference between a trauma that happened 20 years ago and you thinking of it and it happen you you.

Just remembering it right in this moment it will still release the same kind of survival chemicals in your body so it’s releasing these chemicals while you’re off dissociating you know distracting yourself um and so what I realized was okay we’re sitting in this space of fear I know I’m doing these different coping mechanisms because I don’t want to face.

The fear so where is the fear ultimately coming from and it was coming from not feeling loved and accepted not only from myself but from other people and as I’m telling you if you go if you work with someone individually and you go through the layers it almost always comes down to this like even with men even with my.

Husband he was like no I you know because he had lupus right he was developing lupus and he had recurring lime and I’m like you need to deal with the emotional trauma here and he’s like I don’t have any emotional trauma I let things go and he he seems like he does because he’s so even Keel like all the time sure enough we started diving into.

It and it turns out he’s been trying to get his father’s approval since he was a little kid because he never felt good enough he has never felt loved by them and so we do these things we look for this external approval you know like I’m a classic case I mean how many degrees and certifications do I have right it I mean I love learning but I’m doing it.

Also because I want the external validation from people so I had I had to like do this hard look at why am I even having these behaviors like what am I spending my time actually doing and is this healthy is this is living my life going from one coping mechanism to the next actually healthy um and so again as you boil it down it’s because you don’t.

Feel loved and accepted and so what I realized is I couldn’t love and accept myself until I could forgive people because I kept wanting something from the other people right I kept wanting this external validation from them and I just never got it so there was a couple things that actually really helped me to forgive um some things were pretty easy.

To forgive like if I got upset because someone cut me off on the freeway that whatever you know I can like let that emotion go I breathe through it and let it go right um the molest was very difficult to forgive and I I found that the Forgiveness came in layers so it wasn’t this oh I just feel like light all of a sudden I just forgave you.

Entirely right it was like I would remember an incident I’d work through it and I would let it go and then a few days later maybe a few weeks later I hear a song or something and it would bring back another memory then I would work through that one and let it go so for me that really actually happened in layers and one of the a pivotable.

Pivotal moment for me in learning how to forgive for it was two things first of all I realized forgiveness is not about the other person forgiveness is about me saying I’m not going to carry your burden anymore right I’m not going to carry this toxic energy anymore because I love myself too much to do that to myself so here you can have it back that.

Was the first pivotal moment the second was I was listening to a u forgiveness meditation by Louise Haye who I I adore her in this meditation I must have listened to it I don’t know 30 50 times but you know like that one more time you hear it all of a sudden something jumps out at you it’s one thing that she said she said I forgive you for not being the.

Way I wanted you to be it clicked wait a minute I’m sitting here trying to forgive these different people in my lives forgive them for what the molest is a different case right we’re looking at other things that people have done I’m trying to forgive them for an.

Expectation I put on them because I wanted them to be something they weren’t like and this was an analogy I came up with I wanted my dad to my biological dad I wanted him to be an ocean right I wanted him to be able to carry all this water in this ocean my dad is actually a thimble that’s how much water he can carry because of past traumas that he’s.

Had in his life as well he was not capable of being the dad I wanted him to be so I had to learn to I forgive him for not being the way I wanted him to be forgive myself for putting that misplaced expectation on him once you can do that you see them for who they are you don’t try to change them anymore and you begin to love them and.

Accept them for who they are and once I was able to do that with other people I could turn it on myself and say in this situation I want and I expect myself to be this ocean carrying all this water in this particular situation I’m a thimble and that’s okay I love myself and accept myself exactly the way I am
