Golden Balls of Goodness: A Gluten Free Twist on Jamaican Dumplings

So I took out one okay hold in let’s focus focus look at that so the small one I took out have another look look at that oh my goodness okay cook all the way through oh sorry I’m eating and talking at the same time it is so nice Okay those are finished and see they’re all golden bye for now.

I’m going to take them out so I’ve used two cups of the Gluten-Free Self raisin flour just going to add a pinch of salt so basically not a lot just a little bit so which I would call qu off a teaspoon that’s enough and we’re going to.

Mix it’s spilling all over the place never mind okay so what we’re going to do next is just had some water you do need to wash your hands as well okay so now that we’ have had said um the salt mixed everything in we’re just going to add water so I’ve got a cup of water you’re not going to use all of it so just going to add a little at a.

Time and mix just as if you’re making a dough which that’s what you are doing go in again add some more you might use all of it but I don’t know just yet so let’s see you can use your hands if you want to I’ve used the cup and then I’m going to get some more I’ve got less than a cup in.

Here and I’m just going to add little at a time as before don’t add too much water just add little at a time cuz you don’t want it to be too soft and at the same time you don’t want it to be too well dry or too wet or too dry I would say okay I think I can go in with my.

Hands now cuz I think it’s okay and if it’s too wet you just add a little bit more flour and if it’s too dry just add a little bit more water so it’s coming along nicely if mine is too wet then I’m going to add a little bit more flour but it’s definitely not too dry it might be just a t bit wet.

Although if you if I leave it to sit it will be perfect so I don’t really have to add anything to it but if I do want to then I can I think it’s perfect as you can see it’s not sticking it’s not sticking to my hands so it’s perfect okay all right we’re just going to make.

A little bowl leave it to sit for a little bit you don’t have to but because I haven’t got the the pot ready to fry them so then I have to leave it to sit for a little bit okay see you next CP bye I’m using this here because I wanted um to use less oil and so that the oil can cover the dumplings if you use a bigger.

Pot you will tend to use more oil because you want to cover the dumplings in oil or half cover them some people cover them some people don’t it depends on how how you want to fry them I find that when I do put a lot of oil in this case um and it covers the dumplings they fry evenly.

And faster as well or quicker so I tend to do that if the less oil you have the more you have to just stand over them all the time mind you you will have to kind of stand over them and monitor to see that they’re not actually too fried or getting burnt or something so you’re still going to have to keep an eye on them so I’m going to let this H I think.

And get get the pot hot and then pour in the oil I will be using extra virgin olive oil okay so that’s what I’m using I’m going to pour the oil in because the pot is ready I think that is enough oil I think okay you’re not going to so this is one more trick you need to remember remember.

That you need to wash your hands so after you do all of these things you still need to go ahead and wash your hands again cuz you’re touching everything so I’m going to go wash my hands and then come back and put those in but before I do you’re not going to allow this to be too hot you want it to be just right but not too hot it’s not.

Good for the dumplings because then it they get hard and and burnt too quickly okay now that I was washed my hands I turned on the cooker before it’s perfect going to pinch a piece of my dumpling put a ball so I pinch a piece of the flow I said dumpling um and I have it like this so based on the size you want you could go ahead and pinch off the.

Smallest the biggest whatever you want and based on what you want it to look like you’re going to roll this in your hands some people cop it I can’t do that I’m afraid so I just do like this and then I just pop it in so you just do that and then you’re just going to pop pop it in the pot so and it’s not hot yet but you soon see.

The bubbles coming up okay let’s show you what I’m talking about the little bubbles coming around okay hold on bear with me those are the little bubbles that you want to see some people wait until it’s it’s a little bit hotter I don’t I think that’s perfect for me okay see you next K and as I said you pinch based on the.

Size that you want and um go ahead and chop them in so the oil is not covering them but it’s half it’s pretty much half half covering the dumplings and that is perfect I think I’m just going to put five in at the moment I’m not making a lot I think I’ll get probably about six or seven I’m trying to make.

Space for the one in the middle okay all right I might can put another one in so we’re going to do that perfect okay let’s see if I can put in the other one let’s see if we can put in the other one all right let’s check to see if I’ve got space to put the little one yes I’ve got.

Space so we’re going to pop in the other one and I think probably two in a little bit well one I should say one in a little bit so it’s fine so based on the size I think you can get seven or eight or even less or more based on the size see perfect and now I’m just going to allow her to do her thing and I’m going to get back to you you need to.

Watch it make sure cuz you want them to be golden all evenly um fried so at the moment they will be evenly fried because as you can see the more you add to the pot the more the oil Rises so that is perfect so I didn’t need to put any more oil in it I could but I don’t mean to okay I’m going to squeeze this little piece in as.

Well so if I were to pop her just there and my trick is to move these a little bit around cuz they can be moved around a little bit and then she oops will fall in the word okay and oh I don’t want to miss you so there you go those are my dumplings being fried okay see you in the next clip bye.

I’m checking on them I’m not turning them by the way I’m just checking on them I don’t know if you can see them properly I think you can see them now and I haven’t turned up the cooker at all the same um heat um that was there before when we started frying them the same heat right from don’t need to turn it down don’t need to.

Turn it up just leave to leave it medium medium heat and that’s perfect cuz you’re not trying for them to fry too quickly and you notice that they all frying they will be hot shaped because the oil didn’t actually cover all of them so if it had covered all of them then I wouldn’t have a little head on top of each of them but that is also.

Fine now I’m going to go ahead and turn them going to try and turn the rest so I’m going to turn them and then show you in a big bye as you can see I’ve turned all of them okay bye I’m going to allow them to get um golden brown a little golden not too brown but a little bit golden and then they should.

Be all ready so there’s not really a time you’re not timing it cuz you’re not baking bread or you’re not baking cake you’re not baking it you’re giving it time to get golden the oil will cook the dumplings right FR evenly if you put enough oil in the pot if not it will be more difficult to fry the dumplings okay.

Bye okay I have a smaller spoon let’s see what is happening and these are totally different from normal friy dumplings they taste a little bit corny like they’re corn cuz some of them because there’s corn flour in here as well so that’s the reason why and the outer bit of.

It can you hear that is a little bit more crispier than if you were to fry normal flour you use normal flour crispier these are almost finished they’re getting golden I don’t want them to be too gold golden but they’re already fried but I’m going to give them some color cuz I want some.

Color and then because those look like they’re not finished but they actually finished but I want to give them some color so I’m going to watch them turn them again and give them a little bit of bit more color and then show you let’s turn them one more time cuz yes I need you to see.

They’re getting color they’re getting more oopsie sorry they’re getting Browner and Browner as you can see they’re getting golden and that’s what I want so I’m going to leave them in for another few minutes so they get a little bit more color as you can see they are getting color yay so this is on your.

Fred Jamaican gluten-free fried dumpling very very easy to do tastes really really delicious normally you would have this with Aki and sawfish if you were to eat fish I don’t so if I were to do AI it’s just AI with um vegetables um so that’s fine or you can do steam color some people do steam color with Sal fish if you want to but.

Normally you do steam color Lo on its own just steam the color Loop today however I don’t know what I’m going to have mine with it it’s an option between color Lo steam color or AI just Aki without the saltfish um I won’t be showing you how I do that because I have got videos up on how I make both of them these steamed color Lo.

And also the themed well the AC without saltfish so I’ll link those video up here and you can check out how I do them and you can have it with that if you do do stews or cures or whatever it’s nice with cures as well dip in some gravy totally amazing it’s so nice so you can go ahead and do that if you would like okay in the next clip when they’re all.

Golden and thanks very much for watching if you do like this video please go ahead and give me a like so I took out one okay hold in let’s focus focus look at that so the small one I took out have another look look at that oh my goodness okay cook all the way through oh sorry I’m eating and cooking at the same.

Time it is so nice Okay those are finished anden see they all golden bye for now I’m going to take them out
