I Tried Making Gluten-Free American Style Pancakes for the first time

This is Jamie Dyer and this kitchen novice is going to make American style pancakes for the first time so I’m working from a Martha Stewart recipe uh but replacing a few of the ingredients uh to make it glutenfree and dairy free the first thing we’re going to do is measure the ingredients so I’ve put in first here the.

Flour so that’s a cup and a half of flour and then we’re just going to get the sugar on top of the flour we have 2 tablespoon of sugar so that’s one two next 2 tpoon of baking powder like that half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of.

Soda and lastly half a teaspoon of salt that’s the dry ingredients of this recipe sorted now for the Wet Side this is 1 cup of oat milk and we’ve just got to add a couple of ingredients to it so along with the oat milk I’ve got two tablespoon of vegetable oil that was the.

Second one and lastly on this section oh yeah I’ve got my glasses on because I couldn’t read the uh recipe from over here and there’s lots of outakes but yeah got an egg now one egg in the bowl after preparing those two sides we take the dry ingredients and we put them in with the wet like.

That and now to whisk them together so we’re just going to mix that up like that and you can see that it’s already becoming that very familiar porridge like texture in here so I’ve been whisking this a little while and I’m just trying.

To do it faster and faster like that never quite sure how to hold whether it’s like that that seems to give a good action but then you know mostly whisking is this isn’t it I’m kind of concerned about it splashing but I guess the consistency of it doesn’t seem like it would do that.

Too much so I’ll keep whisking this and uh we’ll go on to the next stage so I put a tablespoon of oil in there got half a cup of mixture which will go in there like that and then we’ll put the second one in like that and we’ll just let that cook and we’ll put the lid on as well so.

These have been in here for a couple of minutes or so apparently it takes a little bit longer on the first ones right so I am turning over the first one um and uh if there’s a slight jolt in the edit there my camera stopped so I’m going to flip this over not a perfect first one but it’s not expected to be let’s try and do.

A slightly more gentle job on that and then flip that over and now cook on that side and the lid goes on again so these have cooked for a little while on the other side now I think maybe what’s gone wrong with these is they’re just a little bit too big so I’m going to try a third of a cup full on the next one cuz look these.

Ones are much too big they’re breaking up so I’ll just take all these bits out but now that this pan is heated up a bit it shouldn’t take too long so with these now we just do around a third I’ve done a test pancake which is over here as you can see so now about a third of a cup in the pan three times and they cook quite.

Quickly it’s about 30 to 45 seconds I’m making a little bit of a mess here but uh you know that’s what you do isn’t it haven’t quite got the speed down yet so while I’m being incredibly slow we’re trying to get a third of a cup in I should say um please join my patreon because that really helps to pay to do these recipes to pay for.

Ingredients and stuff and obviously as well give the video a thumbs up and uh subscribe as well for more food videos those three have now gone in it kind of looks like they’ve had holes pierced in them you know like armor or something so yeah about 30 to 45 seconds in there and then.

I flip them over and uh while that’s just cooking in there thank you so much to those who’ve been watching the videos um enjoying them commenting liking sharing um thank you so much uh it means a lot because you know I started this journey um not really feeling that confident in the kitchen but as I do each one I feel like.

You know um my confidence is boosting each time I I don’t know how to say it really just thank you uh for your support um do let me know what you’d like to SE me do another time at the moment we’re on fairly basic things although we have stepped outside that sometimes um if we go down here we can see that these.

Three are nearly done and I’m nearly time to flip it over so let’s take that off let’s hold on to the side of there and then just flip that over like that and we can see it’s nice and crispy golden brown on the back and look these aren’t breaking apart these are a lot more sturdy so we’ll just flip that over cook.

This side for another 30 to 45 seconds let’s now take these off put them on the plate like this and what I will do is finish fin off this mixture cook the rest of the pancakes and then try them so just got the last one there and we’ve made somewhere in the.

Region of 11 or 12 pancakes going to organize this into an order and I will try it so after a bit of a rough start I feel that it’s actually turned out okay in the end because that first one I was very nervous um I think I maybe put too much mixture in and so it broke up but then as it went along I adapted to the situation and now in front of me I have.

A stack of pancakes which have had some golden syrup uh put on top of it poured on top of it I should say um there’s only a few here I’ve decided to save some for later and now it’s time to try it now I’m going to try and cut into the stack like that cuz I believe that’s the way that you do it although I’m losing it there.

We are there’s a couple there golden fluffy just what you want I mean just the right amount of savoriness sweetness just an all round fluffy pancake and I do like a bit of golden syrup with it it just adds that extra bit of sweetness um what else do you put with pancakes do you have strawberries.

Maybe do you put a bit of cream on it um certainly on the other type of Pancakes that I know of we usually have like sugar or lemon you know that type of thing um what about you do let me know in the comments below but this I mean it’s a pancake um the recipe in.

Which I followed I’m going to leave the link in the description below but as I said at the beginning substituted for some oat flour and um oat milk and that is how they’ve turned out so do try it yourself let me know how you get on and I will see you again for another Jamie Tri cooking video
