Be easy but it doesn’t have to be complicated in today’s episode I’m going to address whether or not going gluten-free can help with weight loss and I will also share some simple steps on how to go gluten-free if it’s something that you’ve been considering.
So in my last episode I mentioned that I found out a few months back that I’m gluten intolerant and that that I probably wouldn’t have found out if I hadn’t gone to a functional medicine doctor because I go to my primary care doctor every single year and always do all of the blood work and all the physical stuff and so in January they.
Did my blood work per usual and told me that everything was fine but when I went to my functional medicine doctor in May she found that I am intolerant to to gluten eggs and dairy which explained so much about why I would break out in these random rashes out of the blue why I would get bloated after a lot of my meals and even why I constantly had.
Brain fog in fact one of the first things that I said to my new doctor was for some reason I’m always tired and I think I might have ADHD or something because I have a really hard time focusing and concentrating and to be completely transparent the diagnosis made me sad and frustrated because my initial thoughts were I’m not going to.
Be able to eat my favorite foods anymore like pizza and also there’s gluten in everything so I’m going to have to change my entire diet and going out to eat is going to be a chore and this is so inconvenient I have a friend that’s allergic to like everything and I used to always tease her when we’d go out to.
Dinner because she made a big production about all of her food allergies with a server and I’d always be like they’re going to spit in our food you’re so annoying and I guess that’s what I get for being an because now I’m not as over the top as she is but I do have to be careful with what I’m choosing from the menu so it has definitely been.
A huge lifestyle adjustment for me but once I got past all of those thoughts and I changed all the foods that I was eating I genuinely started feeling better I started thinking more clearly and being less forgetful and distracted and it goes to show just how true this quote by Anne Wigmore is the food you eat can be either the safest and most.
Powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison I didn’t realize that my favorite foods were slowly damaging my brain function and my gut health but does going gluten-free help you lose weight it’s interesting because some of my clients will post in their food journal things like I had cookies for dessert but they were.
Gluten-free and I’m like okay that doesn’t necessarily make them healthier or like suddenly they don’t count because they don’t have gluten so I want to address that first let’s talk about what gluten is gluten is a protein found in certain grains like wheat barley and Rye it’s what makes bread soft and delicious but for some people consuming.
Gluten can lead to health issues like digestive problems and fatigue and it’s important to note that gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity is not the same as celiac disease celiac disease is a genetic autoimmune disease that triggers antibodies to attack the small intestine now can going gluten free help you shed those extra pounds.
The truth is while gluten-free foods can be beneficial for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity they’re not a magical food swap for weight loss if you’re overeating on gluten-free cookies and brownies and chips you still won’t lose weight in fact I even went a little bit overboard in my quest to find some glutenfree and dairyfree desserts.
And I gained a few s so I don’t want any of us falling into the Trap that just because the food is quote healthier it gives us free rain to overdo it the same principles apply to overeating if you’re trying to lose weight even if you’re overeating on gluten-free foods now if you want to go gluten-free because you want to see if.
Maybe the foods that you’re consuming with gluten could be giving you similar side effects to what I had like bloating headaches and brain fog here are five simple steps to going gluten-free keep in mind I am not a doctor these are just the steps that I took that worked for me I highly encourage you to consult with a.
Functional medicine doctor so step one get familiar with gluten start by learning about foods that contain gluten look for ingredients like wheat barley and Ry on the food labels these are indicators that the product contains gluten step two two explore the gluten-free section at your grocery store you’ll very easily find.

Chicken salad with fresh vegetables or a rice bow with beans and salsa step four prevent cross contamination so if you live with others and the people in your household are still consuming gluten just take precautions to avoid cross-contamination using separate utensils cutting boards and even toasters will be helpful to prevent tiny.
Bits of gluten from getting into your food and step five be patient transitioning to a gluten-free diet may take some adjustment it may feel difficult it may feel like an inconvenience it may even feel unfair like I felt because I can’t eat pizza anymore I mean to be fair I could eat pizza if I wanted to and I have but I.
Immediately feel it I immediately feel the effects and for whatever reason I get a rash on my belly when I eat pizza now which is so bizarre so it literally isn’t worth it anymore be patient with yourself it will get easier over time keep in mind that everyone’s body responds differently to dietary changes what works for one.
