Seas the Day: Gluten Free & Dairy Free Dining Delights on Wonder of the Seas!
When cruising on the Royal Caribbean wonder of the Seas we imagine there would be a lot of eating at the main dining room with sit down dinners that were a little stuffy but we have Wiggly kids and we also have gluten and dairy intolerance so what would we safely eat for a quick breakfast or lunch on board oh so.
much let’s start with the classic room service breakfast we’re just getting up and getting ready for the day but our room service finally arrived we ordered it for 8 to 8:30 and it arrived at 9:00 so if we were getting off the ship for an Excursion that would have been an issue.
But we’re not in any hurry um and they did say they had like 300 room service orders this morning so I get it it was busy but it was late we almost gave up on it and went to this to the Buffet Grand gluten-free toast and some fruit toast jam and coffee and juice just a continental breakfast because this is.
Complimentary we did of course tip the delivery we uh didn’t pay for the breakfast with eggs and such that has an extra charge and we’re going to make cereal and peanut butter toast with the things we brought from home I know the items we brought on board were way more than the typical person would bring on an all you.
Can eat cruise but with our dietary restrictions we’re always afraid we’ll end up hungry was the cereal and non-dairy milk a little much maybe but it helped for mornings when we were feeling lazy you can have breakfast on the balcony with a view of St Thomas when we first boarded the ship I spent some time unpacking which you can.
See in our room tour here and Nick took the kids to Central Park to find a snack at the Park Cafe as gluten and dairyfree guests our only options the crew had to serve us were pretty basic salads we hoped being on Deck 8 would mean being close to snacks but this location just did not have much to offer our diet in the royal prominade on Deck five.
The prominade cafe had even fewer options just beverages but sentos was ready to save save the day their gluten-free crust was a popular option and many guests ordered it while we were there it smells like Chuck E cheese in here I’m wondering if that’s the Pizza flavor profile because uh I’m having some strong s memory from my.
Childhood we’ve been waiting a couple minutes for a gluten-free pizza and I’ve been watching them put one gluten-free pizza in before the next one goes in and take it out and use a special uh surface just for the gluten-free pizzas use a cutter that’s just for the gluten-free pizzas so the protocols are pretty good um there’s probably a little bit of.
Dairy from cheese from other pizzas on that cutter um but we did not say could you use a fresh knife or Cutter so um it’s okay here’s the plain one and here’s the veggie one often times with Bo andfree Pizza it’s like this one doesn’t move at all this totally like a crisp cracker so done.
Really well I mean it’s not a non- gluten-free pizza crust it’s not a non- gluten-free pizza crust but as glutenfree pizza crust go Pizza free as gluten-free pizza crust goes it’s pretty good it is not the pizza place on Virgin well that’s a whole different level there’s another video about that up there this.
This is good and better than I recall it being on the they don’t have any vegan cheese so it’s just the toppings and the sauce on the crust um it doesn’t taste as much like Chuck E cheese as the the restaurant smells but it’s yummy and I think the veggies add a lot and it’s a good quick solution as we get ready to go out on.
Our Excursion I want another Pizza you want more yeah I wish I had some salt and I find the crust to be a little bit grainy um it’s gluten-free which going to do but I do think it’s a little grainy still good almost every day each of us had a little drink treat the Starbucks in the.
Prominade was a full Starbucks with all the drinks you’re used to for your midday pickme up some days are drink treat was a surely Temple from bionic bar it’s always fun to have robots mix your custom juice and.
Soda but my little spa getaway was a stop at Vitality for a wellness smoothie or juice this area is open to the public and has a relaxing seating area and a range of coffee and tea options as well my carrot ginger juice hit the spot it felt super healthy the boardwalk is the cutest.
Scene but what would we eat here the dogghouse didn’t have any vegetarian options so we only stopped by as part of a scavenger hunt and we weren’t willing to pay extra for Johnny Rockets since none of it looked super gluten-free safe the shops did have some allergens safe snacks though instead after a busy SE day we.
Decided decided Al Loco fresh would probably be the best spot for a gluten-free snack and while the nacho toppings bar was kind of a mess and seemed like a big risk for cross contact we did get some information on what they could make work today as we were walking by a loco fresh we saw they were putting out the corn tortilla chips and I said.
Excuse me any chance those are made in a dedicated fryer or are gluten-free and he said okay they are gluten-free they are labeled gluten-free but they are not made inh house and we can’t guarantee that there’s not cross-contamination with whoever is manufacturing them but we bring them in they are supposed to be gluten-free so.
As far as everything that happens on our end there’s nothing we do that would cause cross-contamination but just know that we’re we don’t know that we can vouch for the supplier information the more you know but when it came time to get our snack a loco fresh had a line all the way down the deck so instead we went to Wind.
Jammer where they were also serving tortilla chips with toppings okay so let’s talk about the biggest dining option the buffet at the Wind Jammer Wind Jammer may seem tricky gluten and dairy free but we’re going to tackle it because the staff here was.
Stellar with a lot of knowledge of what is allergen-free as is and what they need to make to order in the back just for you now you know if you’re reactive to cross-contamination and if you are don’t get food off the buffet ask the staff to bring yours from the back there are some items like fruit or at breakfast the smoked salmon that.
Sometimes we get for ourselves usually one grown-up would find a table with the kids and get started with some fruit while the other grownup would go looking for the restaurant manager or head chef and walk the buffet to decide what we needed from the back they can bring out milk Alternatives and make fried items in a dedicated fryer upon request and.
Sometimes a chef would surprise us with a special dessert like this peanut butter Rice Krispie bar with a cherry compost the first visit really laid the groundwork so we could go back throughout our cruise and find the staff to help us again it’s actually really good right Dad I agree you heard it here that buffet was.
Really good our first wi Jammer breakfast was a really busy SE day okay so we have now had two meals in Wind Jammer and I know some folks will always avoid the buffet due to cross-contamination and we had some real struggles last time we cruised Royal Caribbean getting folks to give us.
Information having folks even give us the time of day in Wind Jammer and some of that was they were overwhelmed they were getting things kind of still back up and running after a very long shutdown following the pandemic um and I think it just took a while for them to get their sea legs and remember how the customer service they were so.
Used to providing worked um but this time it has been really Stellar I’ll admit there’s still this element of go find the person that can help you and yesterday for our our dinner I spent quite a while just kind of wandering looking for someone who looked like they might be the person in charge the person who had enough information to help me.
Get who I needed I’ve gotten to the point where I no longer ask any of the the service or the the busing staff the cleaning staff those folks who are around the buffet even the people who are just maintaining the pre-made items out in the stations they don’t know and they don’t even necessarily know how to point you to the person who does know so.
I go straight for who looks like they have a big tall chef’s hat who looks like they have an officer’s uniform with the epolets and um sometimes the name tags give me more indicator of who’s the manager and who’s not it does say on the allergy placers if you need help ask for the restaurant manager now I’m still not sure if who I spoke with yesterday was a.
Lead Chef or was a restaurant manager at one point he did pull over a manager and so I was speaking to both a chef and a manager at the same time and getting some great information in fact I was looking for help at the same time as another mom and so we got to both ask about gluten-free dairy free options together um because we’re not.
Susceptible to cross-contamination the first step was the chef telling us which items on the buffet were safe for us but then also there were items that they got for us from the back because they didn’t want to give us anything that was made in a shared fryer with items that contain gluten or they needed to make this morning they needed to make us.
Pancakes with a totally different recipe to make them gluten and dairyfree and they said we can do it no problem how many um I said five they said let’s round it up to six so don’t be afraid to ask for what you need don’t be afraid to ask for a couple extras while you’re at it um there is still an element of ping ponging around a little bit and doing it.
For yourself cuz it’s still a buffet so even if you don’t eat off the buffet and you want your food prepared separately certain things are prepared at different places so today I went to one of the favorites stations to speak to a chef about getting the gluten-free dairyfree pancakes I also went back over there later to ask if they could do hash.
Browns in a dedicated fryer cuz he said the hash browns that they had there would not be safe for us they did say that to use the dedicated fryer they would have to go over to Mason jar to make them so just due to the geography of all of it it would take more time um and then eventually he said that mason jar didn’t have their fryer up and.
Running yet for the day and so he promised his hash browns for tomorrow and that’s okay you don’t you don’t get every single thing you want every single time but we did not leave hungry but he promised us that if we went to the omelet station and specified what our allergies are they had good protocols for using fresh pans and new things and.
Keeping our allergens out so we got omelets from the omelet St station he then said go over to the bakery station and ask for gluten-free and so they gave us gluten-free bread they were out but when they um I checked a couple minutes later and they had they had gotten some more from Storage it was Canyon Bak house bread and they had a h toaster.
There that they used just for the gluten-free items and I watched him wash his hands change his gloves use specific tongs really good protocols um I saw that on the display there were bags of Arrowhead Mills uh pancake and waffle mix so I assume that’s what they’re using for those pancakes and waffles um maybe they’re just display but it’s a.
Good it’s a good bet uh so candy and Bak house and Arrowhead Mills uh they also gave me some muffins blueberry muffins that were made in house and I felt badly cuz I took them before asking if there was also dairy in them um they were the guy knew that I was asking for gluten-free um and when he said yes I felt badly cuz we then couldn’t eat the.
Blueberry muffins that I already had in my possession but that’s okay it happens um but if you just need gluten fruit those blueberry muffins look good all that to say we had a somewhat rough trip eating gluten and dairyfree on Royal 2 years ago I honestly had a lot of anxiety coming into this trip and worried that I.
Was going to eat something that was going to make me feel sick we’re not even 24 hours into it I can’t say it’s a done deal but so far Wind Jammer kind of my jam oh I also wanted to mention last time when we were on anthem of the Seas they had a gluten-free section in the back of Wind Jammer which we thought was great cuz then you know that whole.
Section isn’t going to have any cross-contamination we had a really difficult time getting information about what items back there were dairyfree and so um it’s not that I feel a great loss that there’s not one of those sections on the ship but just worth knowing I did not see anything with a big gluten-free Banner Over a station just for.
Gluten-free that doesn’t exist here on The Wonder of the Seas I’ve seen it on other ships I’ve had other friends recently they have seen it on other ships but not here on wonder One hint when you’re entering the Wind Jammer on wonder of the Seas when you head in most people will go clockwise or.
Counterclockwise around around the circle to try to find a table my recommendation make a right and then make a hard right and you’ll go someplace that you think why am I going over here and there is a whole separate dining room and that it’s not empty by any stretch of the imagination but we found a table that accommodated all five.
Of us within seconds of walking in where as everything else is full like past the omelet station but it is this whole extra dining room that worked the quality of wind Jimmer breakfast was fantastic there was a little DIY required like assembling this gluten-free avocado toast but the flavor was totally worth.
It you’ll notice that one of the items we got today that we didn’t get yesterday was our hash browns here at Wind Jammer oh thank you Nora that’s a hash brown what you should do is check out which days are mason jar brunch days usually a c day because then their fryer will already be turned on and it’ll be ready to make your good free hash BRS.
That was a good6 on the ship we are going to have a itty bitty snack which is french fries and a cup of coffee for me Asher did a great job advocating for himself he got himself almond milk and he also ordered us french fries for a.
Snack don’t think that all the good servers are in the formal dining settings the Wind Jammer servers are fantastic This Server even did magic tricks to entertain the kids good to and kids it put your hand and say washy washy washy wasy so the book will be erased again so how many here four okay four in.
Three 2 1 open it three oh W good night good night but of course we haven’t even touched on the main dining room specialty dining and our experience as sweet guests at Coastal Kitchen so you’ll have to subscribe to catch that one coming up on our full wonder of the Seas series thanks for watching Travelers and we’ll see you next time.
