Chicken pot pie also I am going to talk to you about why protein is important and why we usually don’t get enough protein as we age as well as how much protein is enough so let’s get cooking this delicious comfort food I’m going to start by sautéing up some onions and garlic in a little olive oil I love these induction burners if you don’t.
Have an induction burner you might want to think about investing in one if you go to my website and click on the shop button you’ll be able to find an induction burner I’m adding probably about a tablespoon of oil to my frying pans some diced onions about probably 1 and 1/2 cups it’s one medium diced onion and two cloves of finally diced.
Garlic going to cook that until it’s transl luten one thing you want to remember about your infection burner is that not everything is going to work on it a cast iron skillet like this is ideal also can be purchased on my shop at girlwith Dr jet.com but in addition to that you can use anything that’s solid stainless seal other than that it.
Might not work so great that’s getting cured C looses the garlic nice and brown I’m turning it down a little bit to about medium and I’m going to go ahead and add the celery a cup of mushrooms a cup of carrots and once it’s starts cooking a bit I am going to add a tablespoon of corn sarch as a thickener instead of.
Flour since we’re making this gluten Cree to a cup of my full made chicken broth regular chicken broth you can use purchased chicken broth as well but I’m going to add that in we’ll bring that to a simmer I have precooked or actually left over chicken that I had from a chicken I roasted the other night growing up in a family of 10.
We learned to not waste food and when there was food left over which really was actually pretty rare my mom would make sure that turned it into some delicious leftovers and if there was something that we didn’t eat or like vegetable scraps and stuff like that we had chickens it got fed to the chickens so nothing on the farm got wasted and so.
As a result when I have something left over I try to come up with a recipe where I can repurpose it reuse it in a different way we’re going to let that simmer a little bit I’m going to actually add in a teaspoon of Rosemary as simmering and also a little salt you like pepper you can add some pepper in as well while it’s simmering.
Let’s talk about caching chicken is a great source of protein as well as grass-fed beath just get your organic chicken and the best part of the chicken is lean meat you’ll see there’s some dark meat here again I didn’t want to waste it grass-fed beef fatty fish all of these are great sources of protein if you’re vegan or vegetarian then things.
Like legumes as well as some whole grains and some of those plant-based proteins that are out there will also work as a source of protein for you as a physici one of the things that I have noticed in my patients in the E that as we get older we tend to lose muscle I’ll be 70 years old this year and I’ve even noticed that I’ve lost muscle so how can.
We combat that muscle loss it’s called cyclopia one of the ways we can combat it is to increase the amount of protein in our diet protein helps us build muscles as well as maintain muscles and this is starting to stick a little bit so I’m going to actually add a little extra broth to it probably about another half cup or so so how much protein is.
Enough when we’re younger by before we hit age 60 the recommended amount is 0.8 to 1 gam of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight so if you’re 5′ 6 which is kind of the average height for a woman you want to get about 60 g of protein in your diet on a daily basis that’s a fair amount of protein and frankly that’s more protein than a lot.
Of people have in their diet if you’re over the age of 60 then you want to increase that to 1.2 to 1.5 G per ideal body weight what that means is you want about 90 g of protein in your diet as a minimum some of the experts even say up to 2 G per kilogram of ideal body weight that would be like 120 g of protein again it sounds like a lot but you could.
Do a protein smoothie in the morning with 30 G chicken breast for lunch another 30 G and maybe some lean grass-fed beef or a fatty fish or something like that another 30 G you’ve got your 90 g of protein that you need it will help you prevent sarcopenia muscle loss when we have sarcopenia muscle loss as we age we’re at risk for.
Things like Falls and injuries and just not being able to stay where we are safely it’s huge to be able to live in your house and be safe throughout your life adding plenty of protein in your diet is one of those ways that you can accomplish that this has been simmering for probably about 5 minutes now and I’m going to add in the chicken one pound of.
Chicken the peas which is about a cup to a cup and a half of frozen peas and a cup of heavy cream that’s part of what makes this recipe so delicious and gives you that comfort food Factor we’re going to let this simmer a few more minutes probably another 5 minutes or so and while it’s doing that I’m going to show you how to.
Make that flaky delicious glutenfree crust to put on top of it then we’ll pop it in the oven bake it and enjoy our delicious gluten-free low carb comfort food chicken pop pie to make the crust for this chicken pot pie we’re going to start with almond flour 1 and 1/2 cups we’re going to add a/4 of a cup of.
Coconut flour a teaspoon of baking soda let’s mix that up together and to that we’re going to add one egg and a half of a cup of melted butter as well as some salt probably about4 of a teaspoon maybe half of the teaspoon of salt and we’re adding our half a cup of butter I put the egg in the butter bowl and just bead it.
A little bit before I add it to my crust and we’ll stir that all up get everything all nicely moistened it’s a relatively soft dough and I roll it out between a couple of pieces of plastic wrap or stretch tight something like that just kind of bring it together into a.
Ball just kind of Pat it into a little circle and this is my pen that we’re going to be putting the chicken pot pie in to bake I’ve actually by the way I’ve turned on my oven to 375° you want to preheat your oven 375° while you’re making the crust and I just use my pan kind of as a.
Guide it rolls really easy which is nice and we’re going to measure that a bit getting close that looks pretty good let’s see how we’re doing perfect and it’s time to add filling to our pan and top it with our chicken pot pie crust ah smells wonderful comfort food coming up for dinner tonight love it farmer.
Fred was asking what happened to the potatoes I told him it was low carb no potatoes we’ll see what he thinks of it he likes potatoes in his things when you’re making it low carb potatoes have a lot of carbs in them that fits in there just about perfect and I’m going to leave the bottom piece of stretch tight on it to to help me flip it over.
Onto my PO pie this case will do a little patching it’s not quite as easy to work with as regular gluten dough or when you have flour of course but it’ll still be delicious and the last thing I want to do is put a few little slits in it to let some of the steam out as it bakes my mom used to call these chicken feet.
Well we were vegetarians so we didn’t have chicken pot pie but we had a vegetarian version of it but she would also still make the chicken feet vents in it and it’s good to go in the oven oven is preheated to 375 we are baking it for about 30 minutes I’ll check it in about 25 minutes see what it looks like see if.
The crust is golden and it looks done remember the vegetables are pretty much already cooked when we cooked them in the frying pan so 30 minutes at the most 40 45 minutes our chicken pot pie has been cooking about 45 minutes I checked it out about 30 minutes it wasn’t quite done needed to be a little Browner a little more bubbly and I think it should.
Be done now all hot and bubbly the crust is nice and golden brown and it’s ready to well I got let it cool a little bit before we give it a try wow it smells really good it’s cooled a little bit and I’m ready to give it a try I’ve dished up a little bit of the crust and lots of this delicious chicken pot pie let’s see how it.
Is M wow the crust is nice and Flaky beautifully browned and the flavorings all come together in a really comforting delicious homemade gluten-free low carb chicken pie pie if you found this information informative thank you for clicking that like button and subscribing also when you go to my website you’ll be able to get the full.
