Thriving on a Budget: How to Make Your Dreams a Reality with Less

It’s another beautiful day here in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and we are going to go sightseeing and do some fun stuff it’s only 90 minutes to South Padre Island so we’re going to head out to the beach I’m going to take you with me and I want to give a shout out to Riley who gave me the tip to add cottage cheese to my egg salad to make it.

Stretch my mother-in-law left me some odds and ends out of her refrigerator before she left to travel home she left me some cottage cheese I hate cottage cheese but I mixed it in my egg salad with my other ingredients can’t even tell it’s there helped me to use less mayo and use up her cottage cheese so let’s head out to the.

island I pulled over along the way to check out Port Isabel this is their Lighthouse which is their main attraction there’s about 78 steps to the top it’s one of the few you can still go into and climb to the top in America they have a cute.

Little town square here around the side and I’m going to walk up there and check out some of the history on it before I head down the road here is their little picnic area right here in front and I think I might just make my sandwich and stay here and have it before I head down to the beach so this is one of the things that.

I like to do is keep some easy food on hand when I am camping or when I’m in the RV there’s days that it’s just too hot to cook inside or it’s too windy to cook outside but if I grab some of this easy quick stuff that I can make and take with me then I’m not so tempted to eat out and I can afford to do more fun things like.

This so the lighthouse was built in 1852 too pretty magnificent glad we stopped to see it now we’re getting ready to head over the port Isabella Causeway Bridge sign that says watch for Pelicans.

so since we’re here in the off seon there’s all kinds of parking that’s just free along the edge uh if you were here when it was busier these would be completely filled and there’s all kinds of areas is for beach access so we’re going to head over there now so a really beautiful light breezy.

Day to sit on the beach and just enjoy it without being too hot and now we get into the sand and it’s basically because it’s blown over because as you can see there’s the rubber bottom right there yeah lots of people on the beach today.

Down here now that I know where to go and there was even some parking that was closer so here we are lots of hotels that are Beachside I did look online just to see what it would cost for like one night on the beach in a hotel and I found some as.

Cheap as $90 a night so not super bad in the off seon it’s a very beautiful beach lot of Shoreline I can tell you that being a farm girl from Kansas this is pretty great I don’t even know how many hours I can sit here and just stare at this but I’m sure a long long time given the.

Chance so Padre Island is about 90 minutes from where I’m staying in the Rio Grande Valley it’s not a bad drive at all and maybe you don’t know this but for 15 years I drove 85 miles each way to work which was about an hour and 20 minutes so yeah an hour and 30 minutes to come to the beach versus an hour and 20 minutes to go to work I’ll take the.

Beach side now being able to do stuff like this to me is just so worth pinching the pennies people will say that it’s just not worth their time to save here and there but if it gives you opportunities like this I just don’t understand the logic now will I come here again next year I don’t know there’s so many places.

To see and I’m one of those people I want to go different places all the time see new things my my husband and I have already tentatively planned to go to kilargo in a year so we will be making plans towards that and saving for that and that will be a trip that we both can take together so I am loving being out here I have only been here now three.

Times during our trip down here to stay once with my in-laws once with my husband and now by my myself and I plan on spending most of the afternoon sitting here so I hope you enjoy the video you can’t come this close and not get your feet in the water right oh my gosh so.

Beautiful so this road takes you down to the end of the island and many of you might say why is she taking a sandwich why is she not living her life to the fullest by going out to eat and spending a little bit of money on herself and I remember the days where we used to go to Subway and all of us would.

Pick out a sandwich the way we wanted it and then we would go go to the zoo and go to the park and do stuff like that but things have changed where now we pack our sandwiches and the way I look at it is if I save money now then when my husband and I are together we can spend a little bit more.

Money and splurge on some of those things but when I’m just down here by myself I don’t see the need to do a lot of that I do a little bit of it but I don’t go crazy doing it because I want to be able to go to the nicer places when he’s with me now this area down here is really interesting because you start getting into the.

Area where the sand will blow over the street and you get into some of these desert little Hills uh that are very sparse with some patchy grass and so it’s kind of a neat little drive down here to the end of the island so let me know what you think would you do this by yourself would you pinch pennies so you could do it again.

Because that’s my philosophy I like to pinch pennies so that I can keep doing this stuff and do more of this stuff me it’s just so worth it to open up those dollars for stuff like this I mean this is just so much fun see now here you’re getting to the point where the sand is starting to blow across the road uh they have road graders that come.

In and and push this up and you can see some of them working down there with road graders pushing the sand up kind of a very fun place a very fun place to visit and experience when my husband was here we drove down to the end of this that’s that’s why I know about this area but.

Yeah very very cool place to visit and there is the equipment that’s moving the sand off of the highway for everyone and that’s just a constant thing that they have to do to keep it safe for everybody so South Padre is the most popular Beach now for spring break it used to be in Florida but now.

It is here in South Padre so on both sides of these sandun Hills is the water you can see it in some areas but that’s what is on both sides of these little Hills of sand now down here again it is like anywhere else you can spend as much or as little as you want to spend when it comes to.

Vacationing or just doing anything really you could do a helicopter ride you could zipline there are slingshots and golf carts that you can rent there’s tons of things that you can pay to do and see or you can take advantage of some of the free stuff that I’ve been showing you like going to the beach there’s tons of access points that are.

Free and then there’s some that are like the county ones that have an entrance fee so now that we know more about that we know that we don’t have to pay to get to the beach access but we didn’t know that before when we were down here on the end in November they were building more hotels more fancy homes.

There is just so much down here like I said from a from a $90 Hotel up to as many hundreds of dollars you want to spend a night to rent a room so don’t let it deter you that you can’t travel or you can’t do fun things there’s so many things you can do on a low budget pinching pennies and saving money so you can do more.

Things in the future and that’s how I prefer to travel I prefer to travel cheap but I still enjoy some fun things that do cost more here and there but I’m not going to break the bank doing it because I want to do it again and experience more things and as you see people just pull over along the edge they climb over the dunes to see the.

Water this is just a very slow moving area because there’s a lot going on and then there’s the s on top of it so here we are guys we’re at the end of the road as you can see from the road closure signs but over here on the other side is the beach and people are out there having a good time this is a pretty open area there’s lots of places that says.

You can’t park or you’ll be fined to make sure that there’s room for the people that are in the hotels and stuff and the people that live here too par Park but there’s so much freedom to just pull along the side of the road here by the sand dunes and no one says a thing they do it all up and down this.

Road w oh
