Enjoy delicious gluten-free vegan churros at home, with options for frying or baking. Perfect for a sweet treat that everyone can enjoy!

Deliciously Crispy and Guilt-Free Treats You Can Make in Your Own Kitchen

Churros can be a delightful treat, and this recipe offers a gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, egg-free, refined-sugar-free, vegan, and paleo option that doesn’t compromise on taste. The churros are designed to be crispy on the outside while maintaining a pillowy and chewy texture on the inside. You can choose to fry them in the traditional manner or take a healthier route by baking them, making cleanup easier.

The ingredients list is simple and focuses on alternative flours, such as almond and tapioca flour, along with coconut sugar and coconut oil. A cinnamon sugar coating adds a sweet finish, while a chocolate dipping sauce made from your choice of chocolate and plant milk complements the churros perfectly. This recipe also allows for customization; you can swap out coconut sugar for a granulated sugar substitute to make it sugar-free and lower in carbs, though the starch is necessary to achieve the right texture.

Today we’re making some gluten-free vegan churros. Normally we would make these at the bakery on Cinco de Mayo, but we’re closed cuz it’s Monday. So, we’re going to share the recipe instead so you guys can make these at home. We’re going to start by mixing up our dries, which is almond flour, tapioca, and a pinch of salt. And we just want to.

Mix that nice because we’re going to add it really quickly in the next step. So, next we want a small or medium saucepan. I probably could have gone with a slightly bigger saucepan here. When I add the flour, it’s a little bit full. We’re doing some water, some coconut sugar, and some melted coconut oil. It doesn’t need to be melted. It’s going to.

Melt in your pot anyway. Then just turn it onto a medium heat. And we’re going to give it a quick stir. And we’re just going to bring this up to a simmer. As soon as it hits simmer, you’re going to see the bubbles coming up around the edges of your pan. And that’s when you’re going to turn off your heat. So, ours has hit a simmer. I’m just going to.

Give it a quick stir, and then we’re going to take it off the heat, and we’re going to dump in all our dry ingredients. This is when I started regretting the choice of pot size cuz I could have just dumped this in if I had a slightly bigger pot. But I got it in and it fit. We’re just going to give it a quick stir. And this is going to end.

Up the consistency of shoe dough if you’ve ever made cream puffs or e-clares. So just keep folding and stirring. Just keep folding and stirring until you’ve got all the dry incorporated and it looks nice and uniform. At this point, most recipes include eggs where we veganize it. So, we do not have eggs being added at this.

Point. So, we’re just going to let it sit for a minute or two while we prepare our piping bag. We want this to still be warm. As it cools, it gets thicker, but you don’t want it so hot it’s going to hurt to hold it. So, I’m using a piping bag with a large open star tip. If you don’t have one, go ahead and just use a Ziploc bag and cut off the corner. You.

Don’t need to have the ridges in it. It does give it that characteristic churo look and it does help with even cooking, but you definitely don’t need it. Then push your dough down to the piping tip and push out all the air bubbles. And now we have our dough ready to go. So first up, we’re going to make baked churros. So it uses the exact same.

Dough. We’re going to grab a parchment line baking tray and we’re just going to pipe our little churros. I find it’s quite handy to just trim the dough with scissors as you go. You can also use a knife or you can just push your piping tip down to the tray. And I’ve used up about half of the batter and I’ve now popped them in the oven at 400° for 10.

Minutes. You want to go 10 to 12 minutes till they’re nice and golden brown. And we’re going to prep our cinnamon sugar, which was just 1/4 cup of coconut sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon. And then when they’re hot out of the oven, you want to pop them in the cinnamon sugar. You can do it in a bowl. I really like to do it in a ziploc bag because then.

You can shake it and get them nice and coated. I probably could have thrown a couple in at a time, but I did them one at a time. You’ll see in the next one that I do three and two at a time, and that totally works, too. How good do those look? That’s how we do it at the bakery. We normally bake them, but now we’re going to show you.

The traditional way of frying them. So, you’re going to get a pot of oil heating over medium heat, and then I’m going to use the second half of this dough to pipe out some more churros. And then with delicate items that you’re going to fry, the best thing to do is to cut them into cut your parchment into individual pieces. I could have done this.

Beforehand. It would have been easier if you piped onto your little strips, but you can also cut them out afterwards just like I am. Once your oil is around 350 375 and you’ve got your little churros cut onto paper strips, then we’re just going to plop them in one at a time. If your churros are sticking to your parchment,.

Feel free to dot the whole thing into the oil and you can fish the paper back out in a couple of seconds once it detaches. Just use some tongs or a spider to fish out the parchment paper. But I found that the churros just came off of the parchment quite easily. Then we’re going to fry these for a couple minutes until they’re nice and golden.

Brown. And then we’re going to fish them out with a spider. Or you can use tongs to pull them out individually. Or you can use a slotted spoon, whatever you have handy. Just be very careful cuz the oil is really hot. Then I let them sit in the spider for a couple of seconds just to get any extra oil to drip off before we dump them into our cinnamon.

Sugar mixture and give them a shake to get them nice and coated. These are delicious on their own, but totally optional. If you want to go the extra step and make a chocolate sauce, it’s very easy chocolate sauce. You just need about a/4 cup of your chocolate of choice. Use some sugar-free or vegan chocolate if that’s your jam. And then.

Add a/4 cup of your plant milk of choice. And we’re just going to microwave it until it’s smooth and creamy. And then go ahead and dip in and enjoy. These churros are crispy on the outside and the perfect combo of pillowy and chewy on the inside that you expect from a churro. They’re gluten-free, grain-free, dairy free, egg free, and.

You could even make these sugar-free by swapping out the coconut sugar. Enjoy, guys.
