The journey of motherhood can be both rewarding and challenging, especially for stay-at-home moms who navigate the complexities of raising children while managing household responsibilities. The everyday experiences shared by mothers often highlight the importance of community and support in this unique phase of life. From balancing schedules to finding time for self-care, the stories of these women resonate with many, showcasing the diverse realities of motherhood.

In Michigan, where the seasons change dramatically, many mothers also adapt their lifestyles to accommodate their family’s needs, including dietary choices. Embracing gluten-free options has become a common trend among families, as more mothers seek to provide healthier meals for their children. This shift not only reflects a growing awareness of dietary restrictions but also emphasizes the creativity and resourcefulness that mothers employ to ensure their families thrive.

Hey friends this is Allison with veral roots farm and I got back early from one of our morning stroller walks with my daughter and usually I’d say 75% of the time she wakes up when we get back but this time she decided to keep sleeping and she’s done this a few times so Mama actually.

Gets a few minutes to herself which is really wonderful so so what am I doing I’ll tell you next door our kettle bells and weights I am trying to get as much soil um in these seedling trays as fast as possible because trying to do it with her is insane um when she’s playing around me which is really fun but I don’t know.

Where this soil came from it’s just an organic mix obviously she’s going to be playing in the soil I’m not really worried about that when it comes to our backyard but I don’t really want it all over the kitchen all over our house which is usually where we’re hanging out and this is our mud room so it’s okay if it gets kind of dirty I don’t know why.

I’m whispering but she’s right over there in the garage where I can see her and she is taking the most adorable nap ever because cold naps are her longest naps and the best naps and she’s always refreshed and happy um I feel like most of us are when we’re cuddled up under like 5,000 layers and it’s cool outside or cool in our bedroom so anyway um just.

Wanted to update y’all we uh so I just posted did what sprouting uh yeah we have some amazing Sprout so um what I’m going to be putting in now in these sething trays I’ll probably have just two today um again because I’m not going crazy Cookie pants um because we don’t even have our Garden built you know from like the year before right so we’re.

Starting from scratch and a lot of it is going to be me because my husband will be at his full-time job and then teaching at night and then a few nights a week and then on one day on the weekend and so a lot of it is me so um I don’t want to plant too much this year I mentioned that in another video so I do have a ton of seeds I’m trying to scale.

Back but if I do end up see if that was my daughter I um if I do end up having too many seedlings then I’ll just give them to friends and neighbors and that’ll be fine um but yeah I’m going to try and fill these seeds as fast as possible these seedling trays um while my daughter is asleep because because it’s amazing cuz you.

Know if you have a child a little one or if you’ve had little ones you know it takes probably 25 times as long to get anything done so when you do have an extra 5 minutes um you use it well so time management as a parent just gets better and better I’m guessing with with each child but all right so that being said.

Wanted to update y’all I’m going to shush and get Fe get filling these trays um but yeah what’s going in today is probably going to be the more perennial herbs that will hopefully come back year after year if I get their Roots systems um strong enough so yeah um okay I’ll see you guys in a little bit okay guys so I actually got.

Two-thirds of the tray done in between uh checking on my daughter and green tea sips so I’m just going to show you what we have so far um I just have a few multi- sewn uh little little slots here because I love some of these that you’ll see uh so comrey um I do have three because I’m going to be planting those under some of our fruit trees that we’re.

Going to be planting this year have a lettuce leaf basil Italian parsley butterfly pea flour lemon basil Cardinal Basil Thai Basil amethyst basil um bachelor buttons I have five of those because they are just so adorable and I’ll probably be drying those um maybe putting them in you know some soaps or um you know eating them putting them on.

Salads that sort of thing um I have some oregano uh piccolino basil which is a little petite kind of round basil formation um I’ll probably grow those in my kitchen um stinging nettle I have two of those cuz it’s so beneficial we just we love it uh HPS holy basil white Horehound chal um elephant dip D I have a bunch of cuz I love Dill um and then I.

Have a geneves basil a bunch of lemon balm as well and Calypso cilantro that’s the last one so um I have a few left here I’m going to go check on my daughter so I don’t know how much I can get to but I have some from Mi Gardener I think I showed you all this in another video but I have Pur Lane which um can get invasive in warmer zones so.

Definitely be careful where you plant that going to plant out our mirold so um those can be planted sporadically around the yard and in our rais beds um one of the few of colula Roman chamomile um I have fever few summer Savory more asparagus borage and then nerum and let’s see oh here we go oh and Yaro of course Yaro.

Is actually pretty um wild here it’s it’s in a lot of yards that I see walking around um so it’s definitely it’s definitely round but I’ll probably still plant it just in case just do I have some um it’s also very medicinal and beautiful in a low growing plant so it’ll be nice um have this empty tray as well so yeah um these are some of the.

Seeds I’ve gone through and some that I just decided maybe I won’t grow this year and maybe just stick to next year um but yeah you know we’re doing it we’re doing it hey friends it’s the morning right now here at f r farm and uh I just thought I would come on real quick it’s just.

Before 700 a.m. and for once my daughter actually is slept pretty well only woke up maybe six or seven times um and that’s really good for us in her 14 months of living and so I thought I would come on here and kind of just remind myself and.

Maybe um other moms out there other parents out there with little ones who are struggling with sleep that it does change there are those days or those mornings that you unexpectedly unexpectedly get that recharge you and reset you maybe for another month you know you may.

Not get it for another month but you may get it tomorrow you may get it next week and it’s they feel great they feel wonderful it makes you believe that there’s change just around the corner which you know if you’re a parent or soon to be parent you know it’s like it’s a good and a bad thing you know like kids just change so.

Quickly and some of the things that might be a little stressful or or worrying they will they will not be forever um and the things that you love maybe they won’t be forever either you know um so it’s definitely a Bittersweet sort of thing so I thought I would um just turn on the camera for a second and and remind the.

Cats are are waking up so um they we have a really nice renovated like downstairs um where my husband’s offices and our utility room um my pantry our laundry room is and it’s carpeted and and nice and it leads like to our backyard but um we have to keep the cats down there um or else they will definitely wake up my daughter.

Um so yeah if you hear some chirping that’s them uh saying hello cuz we let we let them out in the morning um but yeah I hope everyone’s doing doing okay out there um I just turned on our seedling trays and um there is if you’ve watched any of my previous videos about the seeds that I got from experimental Farm.

Network for the very first time uh one of the northern mapops is guys come on our cats they they’re literally like I think almost nine and I got them both as kittens um around the same time and they still don’t like each other to this day yeah okay anyway um what was I going to say oh yeah so the northern mop one.

Of them sprouted from experimental Farm Network and I am just over the moon because um being from the south maypop or uh the paora incarnata which is the one that’s native to the region um like you know the South like Middle Tennessee um it can get pretty weedy there but uh it’s really right on the border of our growing zone.

The one the ones that I got um so what I’ll probably do is grow this out bring it inside this winter um maybe if I get enough sprouted maybe plant some outside and like up against the house so there’s kind of like that heat release from the house throughout throughout the winter this coming winter um to where I can create.

Kind of a microclimate you know what I mean um in order to to give it some hope of surviving but I might also just pot them up keep them going this coming winter and then plant them because they’ll have a stronger root system and um that sort of information I actually got from the book called cold hearty fruit and nuts which I believe I.

Did recommend in in my gardening um in my favorite gardening book video as well um so that those if you are kind of I would say Zone maybe like Zone 7 and Below but especially zone 6 and Below um for those who might be watching this video for the first time I came from Middle Tennessee Zone 7 a 7B and now I am in 4B 5A with about 200 in.

Um annually of snow and so it’s so funny like a lot sometimes like our um our last frost date really like the the date that everyone has given me locals to plant out warm things like your Tomatoes eggplants Peppers Etc warm loving plants is June 1st here um it may be warm enough don’t know what that was it might be warm enough but there might still be.

Snow on the ground we might still get like kind of a late cold snap so um May I’m just going to be watching the weather like a lot of us like watching the weather like a hawk um and that will just determine you know when I plant everything out I might wait because you never know we are really close to Lake Superior and some of that lake effect.

Snow um Lake Effect weather uh can’t really be predicted by by the news and so um might just wait and June until June 1st now that I’m actually talking this out with myself like cuz I’ve done that I did that um we had a late cold snap in Middle Tennessee one year and I had planted out I mean I couldn’t tell you how many.

Tomatoes hundreds hundreds yeah my husband just hundreds and hundreds and um yeah it’s I I’m definitely one of those people I was like I’m not taking this chance I took them all out and um cuz I laid them flat you know we were doing I don’t know what the term.

Is off the top of my head but like laying them flat against the ground and covering up most of the stem right so it could it it establishes a very good root system because tomatoes are a vining plant um which is why you see a lot of um commercial or uh Market farmer Growers growing them up in a tunnel and we we grow them up too to save space um.

We’ll be growing them vertically up most of them I’ll probably grow uh our determinate varieties which are varieties that um you know fruit once or twice they’re not a continuing fruiting plant I’ll probably plant the determinant varieties in our grow Towers or in some pots but I digress but I had to rip all those plants up and I stuck.

Them in buckets of water for the night and then had to replant them like a couple days later and it was so much work it was so fast too I was just like um that was crazy pants um Story Time with Allison early in the morning while she’s drinking her matcha hey um all right well I’m going to go because uh my husband is out of the bathroom and oh oh.

I guess he heard our daughter perfect timing okay I’m going to go um and yeah hope you all have a wonderful wonderful day oh hello one of the kitties came to say hi and I’m going to finish making breakfast and see yep we have a couple hours before my husband starts work so we kind of all just hang out in the morning eat.

Breakfast sip our drinks um maybe run a couple errands if we need to but I think this morning we are staying in and um just going to enjoy the beautiful beautiful morning together um okay I’ll talk to you guys soon bye
